Vassy Kapelos is a Canadian political journalist who was born on May 6, 1981. She was born in Toronto. She began her career as a journalist in radio, working at various stations across Canada before transitioning to television. Apart from her journalism career, she is also a speaker and emcee. She has spoken at various events, including conferences, charity events, and corporate events.

Kapelos completed her graduation from the University of Western Ontario with a Bachelor of Arts in 2004. She then completed her post-graduation from Dalhousie University with a Master of Arts in 2006. Ethnic origin of Kapelos is of Greek and German.

Kapelos started her journalism reporting in Swift Current and later she worked for the Global Television Network’s stations in Edmonton and Saskatoon.

In the year 2013, Kapelos was part of the reporting team for the series “Code Red”, it was an investigative series on the ambulance industry in Alberta, which conducted interviews with paramedics and other sources and an in-studio interview with Fred Horne, Alberta Minister of Health. This investigation revealed an under-resourced industry that was endangering Alberta residents. As a result of this investigating series, provincial government was forced to initiate a review of the complete system. This series also won the 2013 Edward R. Murrow Award for Best News Series in the international category.

Kapelos was transferred back to the Ottawa bureau in 2013, later she became the bureau chief in 2016 for the Global News. Kapelos hosted Sunday morning political affairs show, The West Block for Global News. She also serves as a regular contributor to Global News’ coverage of federal politics and appears as a panelist on various political discussion programs. Later In Feb ,2018 she left Global News to join CBC News Network, where she hosted the famous show “Power & Politics” from 2018 to 2022.

In November 2022, Kapelos moved to CTV News as a chief political correspondent. She also hosted two flagship political shows “Power Play” and “Question Period”

Kapelos has won Canadian Screen Award twice for Best Live Production whose details are as below:

  • Social Media (2020), for CBC’s coverage of the B.C. by-election.
  • Best Talk Program or Series (2021), for POWER & POLITICS.

In 2021, Kapelos received the Leitch Lecture Award from the University of Calgary’s and University of Alberta and after delivering an impactful lecture on the political effect of the COVID-19 health crisis in Canada.
