The Chair Girl- Marcella Zoia

by Your Daily Hunt

Marcella Zoia, a 19-year-old from Toronto, Canada, catapulted to social media fame in February 2019. She now has over 228K Instagram followers after posting a selfie with her lawyer Gregory W. Leslie last year, which gained a lot of attention. Zoia has done photo sessions in Miami and shared a video that led to speculation that she was using cocaine; however, she later took a private drug test to establish she was not. Zoia surrendered to authorities after a video of her throwing a chair went popular on social media.

She is nicknamed “chair girl” and here is why

After a prank in which she threw an Ikea chair off a 45th-floor balcony onto a busy highway in 2019, she was called “chair girl” on social media.

After the video of her act went viral, she agreed to plead guilty to mischief endangering life.

Fortunately, nobody was killed or harmed, although the judge attributed this to “pure luck.”

Zoia performed a very risky act, Justice Mara Greene stated in sentencing her. She did it for her amusement and ego at the time. It was a selfish move with potentially disastrous consequences. It was just through chance that no one was injured or killed. Zoia confessed that the chair-tossing was captured on her phone, but she denied sending it to her own Snapchat account, where it became viral.

The prosecutor requested a six-month term for Zoia, however, the judge decided against it because of her young and rehabilitative ability.

Chair Girl was fined 2,000 dollars and sentenced to two years of probation and community service

Marcella Zoia, nicknamed “Chair Girl,” will not be sentenced to prison for hurling a chair of a Toronto skyscraper in 2019. Following a guilty plea to mischief risking life, the Toronto citizen was fined 2,000 dollars and sentenced to 2 years’ probation. She will also have to volunteer for 150 hours.

Zoia, who had been 19 at the time she flung the chair, was not sentenced to prison, according to Justice Mara Greene. The whole thing was recorded and posted online. As per the CBC, Greene stated that she cannot find any evidence that Zoia intended to injure anyone when she tossed that chair.

“Zoia performed a very risky activity,” Greene continued. She did it for the sake of all amusement and ego at the time. It was a selfish move with potentially disastrous consequences. “It’s only through chance that no one would be harmed or killed,” CTV says.

Earlier this year, at a court hearing where both the prosecution and defense presented their cases, Zoia read a statement that said that she was sorry and had no intention of hurting anyone, she recognizes that this was a selfish mistake. She had a lot of work to do and wanted to make a difference in her life. She understood that someone may have been injured or that she may have caused an accident.

Following the release of the video, that was a dreadful decision that elevated a previously unknown dentistry student/bottle girl to Canada’s Most Wanted. But she might now have a say in whether she goes to jail or not.

Zoia’s sentencing was set for the 14th of January, but that was postponed by more than 3 weeks due to a disagreement between the defense and prosecution over how the chair-throwing clip ended up on social media. The question of whether Zoia, now 20, uploaded it to her Snapchat account herself or whether somebody did will be decided today when the two sides re-join in court. This is another story of whether this would count in calculating the length of her sentence.

The Crown, which is seeking a six-month prison sentence, wants to show that Zoia uploaded the clip on purpose to gain attention, as per the Toronto Star. According to Zoia’s lawyer, Greg Leslie, they want to say she had done it for social media, which tends to worsen. He claims that his client’s post-offense behavior (i.e., a slew of seductive Instagram photos) will be used to further evidence of her celebrity-seeking motivation, desire to benefit from her Chair Girl infamy, and her pursuit for the blue “authenticated” mark at all costs.

Fairly, this understanding of the facts isn’t completely improbable. (Zoia is an Instagram model who bases her profession on her presence on social media.) Here is another for the sake of reasoning: Since it is (or was) 2019, a nineteen-year-old does an unlawful and stupid trick, the prank ends up on the internet. Perhaps she, or perhaps a friend, placed it there. A female threw a chair into oncoming traffic, indicating that no one was using good judgment at the time. Is it not possible, however, that what occurred on the balcony wasn’t part of the plan to make her the next Kim Kardashian?

Greg Leslie, Zoia’s lawyer, previously stated that his client had stopped going to school, lost modeling contracts, and was anxious. He also claimed that she had an alcohol problem. He claimed that his client had been childish and had given in to peer pressure. The prosecution, on the other hand, claimed Zoia downplayed the severity of the event. In court, Zoia expressed regret for the incident.

“Sorry for the inconvenience. Many people might have been deeply harmed as a result of my actions “she had previously stated. “I recognize that this was a very petty and selfish mistake for which I accept complete blame.”

The judge ordered her to comply with any counseling requirements imposed by her probation officer and will have to provide a DNA sample.

Leslie described Zoia’s punishment as “abundantly fair” and claimed she is attempting to change her life.

How she met Drake

Her name was plastered throughout global social media platforms after her reckless chair hurling episode, but she had put her toe in the waters of fame earlier when she collaborated with artist Drake.

The Canadian singer released his music video for War on Xmas Eve of 2019. In the video, he can be seen skiing, snowboarding, and relaxing in a cabin alongside her buddies.

Zoia was also seen in the cabin with a close-up picture in the blue-lit party scene with some other woman and male in the initial version, though her clip was cut.

When the news broke, Drake took to Social media, Instagram to explain that he does not select extras for his videos and that “some folks we do not support.” On Christmas Day, one day after the original, he published a revised version of the video with Zoe removed.
